In the beginning of 2003, the Chester County Office of the Sheriffs joined the National Kids Safe campaign and quickly grew to become a leader in Child Safety among the County. The Office of the Sheriffs Kids Safe program operates under the guidance of Sheriff Carolyn Welsh and five other deputies, who are Sgt. Matthew Tocydlowski, Deputy Chris Rongaus, Deputy Brad DeSando, Deputy Suzanne Campos, and Deputy Deborah Scavello. These deputies attended an intensive training class and were certified by the states NHTA (National Highway Transportation Association) as Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Each deputy has been instructed in the proper way the manufactures recommend their products to be used and installed.
{First car seat}
The Office of the Sheriffs has helped hundreds of families with the installation of their new Child Safety seat, insuring the safety of their child. Studies have found that 85-90% of Child Safety seats are installed incorrectly. This is why the Office of the Sheriff has taken on this service, to give new families somewhere to go for help, at no cost to them. Sheriff Carolyn Bunny Welsh has stated, “this program is one of our most innovative and rewarding programs. It has given parents the assurance that they are doing everything they can to ensure their children are traveling safely.”Sheriff Welsh has gone the extra step to provide a life like infant doll to assist the deputies in explaining car seat safety and installation to expectant first time mothers.The Safe Kids Team also offers seminars to large groups to teach vehicle and child seat safety.
{Baby Chester}
The program is handled by appointment only. Our Safe Kids Team conducts the car seat checks on the first and third Tuesday of every month. Appointment times are every hour starting with 4:30pm and lasting until 8:30p.m. at the Saturn of West Chester who have gladly volunteered the use of their showroom for these appointments. |
