The Office of the Recorder of Deeds is the repository for documents primarily relating to real estate located in Chester County Pennsylvania. These documents include deeds, mortgages, rights-of-way, powers-of-attorney as well as other lesser known records, such as bonds and commissions for notaries and elected officials.
 
The Recorder of Deeds is elected to office for a four year term. Ryan A. Costello, Esq. took office in January 2008. His background includes real estate law, title insurance and prior experience as a township supervisor.
 
Our office and research library are located in the Borough of West Chester.

Please note: The Recorder of Deeds Office Staff are not permitted to do research for the public. We can get you started by showing you how to utilize the Search Library resources, but cannot do the actual research for you. The "House Research Guide" was prepared by the County's Archives & Record Services Office to assist the public in conducting historical research projects.
