Eligibility and Paying for Services
Individuals who receive Medical Assistance/HealthChoices and who seek mental health care should contact
Community Care Behavioral Health at 1-866-622-4228 for referral to an assessment site.
The County Office of Mental Health funds area agencies to serve county residents with limited or no private insurance coverage, no eligibility for Medical Assistance/HealthChoices, and no other resources to pay for mental health services. The County Program also pays for selected specialized services which typical private insurance and HealthChoices do not cover. Priority is given to persons with serious and persistent mental illness.
The county mental health network has a variety of services and supports for adults with serious and persistent mental illness and children with social, emotional, and behavioral disturbances. Clients typically have used up or have no private insurance for mental health care. All children and adolescents with a serious mental illness qualify for Medical Assistance (
“Medical Assistance (MA) for the Disabled Child”) regardless of parental income. Many individuals qualify for both Medical Assistance/ HealthChoices and for County-funded mental health services. County residents interested in mental health services may contact one of our 6 Core Provider agencies that are the entry points for county-funded services. During an initial interview and assessment, the Core Provider staff helps to identify what is needed and what the individual or family resources are. Documentation of income must be provided to determine if the individual or family qualifies for additional benefits. Private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid cover some services. The client may be expected to pay a share of service costs.
