Chester County Department of Mental Health & Mental Retardation



History
 
The Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation was established in the late 1960’s according to the Pennsylvania statute named the Mental Health/Mental Retardation Act of 1966.  The Department plans, administers, monitors and evaluates a wide range of mental health, mental retardation and early intervention services for children and adults.  The Department receives funds from federal, state, county, and some philanthropic sources.  Administration staff perform contract oversight, service monitoring, invoice processing, and information systems management.  The Administration staff focuses on broad service system issues as well as developing and maintaining quality in services.  The Administration office works with a variety of other County Departments and with the Public Welfare County Assistance Office, schools, community groups and many other organizations to promote the efficient and effective delivery of services.
