COURTS
The Court of Common Pleas of Chester County is a general jurisdiction trial court located in West Chester, Pennsylvania. There are eleven full time judges and one senior judge. The judges hear a wide spectrum of cases, including adult and juvenile criminal prosecutions, lawsuits involving money or property, divorce, custody disputes, child support issues, adoptions, and estates. In addition to court staff and court administration, the court supervises Adult Probation, Juvenile Probation, Domestic Relations, Bail Agency, Court Reporters, and the Law Library. The Court oversees and provides administrative services to the seventeen district justice offices that comprise the District Justice system in Chester County.

Judge Mahon was born in New York and obtained his B.A. degree from Fordham University in 1975 and his J.D. degree from the University of Dayton Law School in 1979.  After serving as a law clerk in the United States District Court in Ohio for two years and working in the general practice of law in New York for three years, Judge Mahon came to Chester County as an Assistant District Attorney in 1984.  He remained in that position until 1987, when he became associated with and eventually a partner in the firm of Lamb, Windle & McErlane, P.C., where he had a general practice with emphasis on criminal and civil litigation.

Judge Mahon was elected to the Court of Common Pleas in November 1999 and took the oath of office in January 2000.  He is assigned to a wide-ranging caseload involving civil, criminal and zoning law matters.  He also presides over Chester County Drug Court, an innovative program for non-violent drug offenders, which stresses accountability and productivity for individuals coping with drug addiction.

Judge Mahon has been active in a wide variety of community activities, including the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry, MECA of Chester County, Inc., Community Service Council of Chester County and Camp Cadet of Chester County.

Judge Mahon is married to Jeannette Mahon.
