Sidney ToneySidney Toney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Montry Toney, was born in the Bronx, New York, on August 6, 1923. He was the youngest of 3 children, James, Mary, as well as Sidney. He graduated in 1941 from Clyton High School.

Sidney followed his brother and moved to Coatesville in 1943. He lived with his Aunt and Uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Giles Fortune at 854 Coates St. He attended the African Methodist Episcopal Church on 1st Ave with his relatives. Tony was known as a very quiet, considerate young man. 

He obtained employment at Lukens Steel in its Employment  Reserve.Thumbnail: Map of South Pacific Theater - 1942

In July, 1943, Sidney he was inducted service with the US Navy. He served 6 months in the states before serving in the South Pacific. Seaman 1st Class Toney was killed in action on April 18, 1944.

Sidney Toney was the 10th fatality among Coatesville residents in World War II.
