U.S. Army LogoCarrol E. Moses was born on March 1, 1917 to Ernest C. and Edith B. Moses of East Coventry Township, Pennsylvania, south of Pottstown.  He was the second oldest of eleven children: Belva, Carol, Evelyn F., Lawrence R., Dorothy M., Marie E., K. Francis, Arthur,  Ralph, Betty Jean, and Grace.  His father Ernest, worked as a butcher.

 Carrol attended South Coventry schools and the North Coventry High School, located on Hanover Street (Rt. 663), besides what is today the North Coventry Municipal Building.  (The former High School building is now part of the West Mont Christian Academy.) 

 Carrol married Ruth Noble.

 Carrol entered service in the Army on March 2, 1942.   He served in the 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th “Tropical Lightning” Infantry Division (the same Division, albeit a different regiment of Hero John Toth.).

 After basic training, the division then underwent intensive Jungle Warfare training in the Hawaiian Islands. His division was then sent to Guadalcanal to reinforce the 1st Marine Division as part of the XIV Corps.  The unit began combat on January 7th, 1943.

 Private Carrol E. Moses Died Non Battle on March 2, 1943 in the South Pacific of diphtheria. Diseases struck as many men as the enemy in the torturous jungle heat, with little sanitation available on the battlefield.

 His wife received the telegram from the War Department on March 8th, noting that more details would follow.

 Carrol was buried at the Honolulu National Memorial Cemetery, in Hawaii.

 

 

 A Memorial Service was held at the Pughtown Baptist Church in South Coventry Township on Sunday March 14th.   The Reverend Charles Jared, presided. His brother, Private Lawrence Moses, received emergency leave from Miami where he was stationed, to attend.

 Carrol received the Bronze Star for his courage in battle.

 Besides his wife Ruth, he was survived by his month old daughter, Caroline.
