Harry P. LeuchakHarry P. Leuchak was the son of Mr. And Mrs. Peter Leuchak, of Chester Springs RD 1.  He was a graduate of Phoenixville High school, class of 1937. He had been working on his father’s farm prior to entering the service.  Tech Sergeant Leuchak was a member of the Vincent Baptist Church.  Along with his parents, he was survived by two sisters, Cecelia and Elizabeth, and a brother, Private Walter Leuchak, stationed at Kessler Field, Mississippi.   At a later date, Cecelia married John Sweisford, Jr., Pottstown, and brother Walter made it safely home from the war.

Mr. Leuchak was drafted into the Army in September, 1942 and trained with the Amphibious Engineers at Camp Edwards, Mass., and Fort Ord, California, before going to the South Pacific.   He went overseas as a mechanic with his 365th Amphibious Engineers in November 1943.  This hero was killed at the age of 26 on Mindanao, Philippine Islands, on March 12, 1945.  He was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously.   The remains of T-4 Army Harry P. Leuchak were placed in a temporary military cemetery in the South Pacific, before being shipped to the United States in 1948.

Funeral services for this hero were held at the home of his parents, in West Vincent Township on the road from Flowing Springs to Birchrunville on September 4, 1948.  Interment was at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Pottstown, PA.
