U.S. Army LogoGeorge J. Ford was born on December 20, 1920 to Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Ford who lived at 206 South High Street in West Chester, Pennsylvania.  He was one of 5 children: brother Francis, and sisters Marian, Mary, and Betty.

George was a member of St. Agnes Church in West Chester.

George worked at Denny Tag Company then located at Church and Bernard St in the town.

George entered the Army on December 9, 1942.   He trained at Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi, and at Camp Maxey, Texas.  He was home on furlough in July 1944 before he was shipped overseas in September, the last time his parents saw him.

George served in an antitank Company in the 395 Infantry Regiment,  9th  ‘Old Reliable’, Infantry Division, (attached to the 1st ‘Big Red One’ Division –March 2, 1945).

Private First Class George J. Ford was Killed In Action in Germany on March 26, 1945. His parents received the fateful telegram on April 10th.   George was buried at a local military cemetery in Germany.

In 1948, George was returned for reburial in his home country.  Services were held at the Hicks Funeral Home, 229 S. High Street  West Chester, on Wednesday morning December 15, 1948, followed by interment at St. Agnes Cemetery (located just north of the borough), with full military honors.
