Alan
B. Stewart was born in 1923 to Charles C. and Elvera G. Stewart,
who lived on Dorset Road in Easttown. Alan was the younger of two children,
including his sister Elizabeth.Alan’s father, Charles, worked as a consultant to a paper company and was a World War I Veteran. Alan attended Haverford Preparatory School graduating in 1940. He was a star in track, football and swimming at the school. He then went on to complete 2 years of college, of which the name of the college is not known. He was a frequent visitor to Mont Clare of H. H. Gilkyson and J. B. Emack, both noted community leaders and Veterans of the First World War. Alan entered service in the Army, and after basic and advanced training was sent overseas to the European Theater of Operations in October 1944. Alan was assigned to serve with the 335th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division. Private Alan B. Stewart was grievously Wounded In Action on his first day of combat, November 29, 1944, in Germany. He died in a Belgium hospital on December 3rd.
