U.S. Marine Corps LogoRobert Pyle was born in January 7, 1927 to Wesley A. and Mary M. Pyle who lived on Conestoga Road in Devon, Pennsylvania.

His father was from Texas, traveling to different states for employment. Robert was one of eight children: Wesley A. Jr. was born in Texas, Edward in Georgia, Sarah -  South Carolina, Donald A. in North Carolina, Regina in Georgia, Robert and Richard in North Carolina, and Shirley in Pennsylvania. Robert and Richard were twins. 

Robert was a member of the Choir St. at Mary’s Church in Wayne.  He attended the Tredyffrin-Easttown High School, today called the Tredyffrin-Easttown Middle school on Conestoga Road in Berwyn. Both Robert and his twin brother Richard left before they graduated to enlist in the Marine Corps on July 7, 1944.

After basic training, Robert was assigned to the Headquarters Company of the 6th Marine Regiment, Richard to the 1st Marine Division.   Both were together on the same ship, crossing the equator in the Pacific Ocean on Christmas Day, and celebrated their 18th birthday on board ship.

Both Robert and Richard went ashore on D-Day for Okinawa on Easter Sunday April 1, 1945.

Private Robert Pyle was Killed In Action on May 19, 1945.

Robert was buried at the Arlington National Cemetery.

His brothers Donald and Edward also served during the war.
