U.S. Marine Corps LogoFranklin Ogden Boone was born in 1921 to Paul Clayton Boone Sue Ogden Boone who lived at 342 Valley Road in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.  Frank was one of 3 children, including his brother Paul Jr. and sister Ella.  His father was a veteran of World War I, and worked as a bookkeeper.

Frank graduated from Gordon Junior High School on Main Street between 5th and 6th streets (the old High School building, currently used by the Coatesville School District Administration) after which the  family moved to Bloomsburg, PA.

Frank enlisted in the Marine Corps after Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.  He landed on Guadalcanal with the 1st Marine Division.

Sergeant Franklyn Ogden Boone was Killed In Action on September 15, 1942.

His parents received word of Frank’s death about a month after his death, but did not announce it, hoping his brother, Paul would not hear of Frank’s death.  Paul did learn of his Frank’s death and did not write to his parents, hoping they would not hear it. Paul, who was wounded during the attack on Pearl Harbor, was evacuated to a hospital in San Francisco, recovered and return to duty, eventually rising to the rank of Captain.
