Ashtrays to Art Project
The Chester County Tobacco Free Coalition (CCTFC) participated in a regional initiative where Chester County businesses were asked to donate their ashtrays to the "Ashtrays to Art" project. The CCTFC worked with the Chester County Art Association and several other community organizations and used the collected ashtrays to create a piece of artwork that raises awareness about the new legislation, tobacco smoke pollution, and clean indoor air. An unveiling of the artwork took place on November, 20th, 2008 at the Chester County Art Association. Below are some photos of this thought-provoking piece - a planter made of ashtrays would most certainly kill its plants.

The Health Department is interested in showcasing the artwork at middle schools and high schools throughout the county. If your school would like to host the Ashtrays to Art project, or would be interested in working on other art projects focusing on smoke-free environments and the effects of second-hand smoke, please call 610-344-5286.
