Dental Sealant Program

The Chester County Health Department is working with community dental providers and local schools to coordinate school-based dental sealant programs for children ages 6 to 8 and 12 to 14 in Chester County.

Dental sealants are thin protective coatings that are applied to the chewing surfaces of the premolars, first and second permanent molars to prevent decay. Most tooth decay in children and teenagers occurs on the chewing surfaces where pits and grooves tend to trap food and bacteria. Sealants fill in these pits and grooves so that bacteria cannot multiply and cause cavities.  Click here for more information about dental sealants. or print the Dental Sealant Brochure from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
