Coronary Heart Disease & Stroke
Stroke, heart attack and related diseases of the heart and blood vessels continue to be the leading causes of premature death and disability in Chester County as they are throughout the nation. In Chester County, there were 5,701 deaths due to diseases of the heart, cerebrovascular disease and atherosclerosis from 1999-2003. (PA Vital Statistics)
The goal of the Chester County Health Department is to decrease the coronary heart disease and stroke risk factors of County residents by providing community-based awareness, education and preventive services. Programs offered by our staff include "Heart Health", an educational presentation promoting the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through controlling blood pressure and cholesterol and adopting behaviors that prevent heart attack or stroke.
