What is an Election Officer?
 
Election officers work at the polls on election days to ensure elections are run in an honest and well organized manner.
 
Who can be an Election Officer?
 
You are eligible if you:
  • are registered to vote in Chester County
  • enjoy meeting other people and serving the public
  • are detail oriented, able to take direction well, and not easily distracted
 
When are Election Days and what are the hours worked?
 
Primary elections are always held on the third Tuesday in the month of May, except during a Presidential year, in which case the primary is held on the fourth Tuesday in April.
General and Municipal elections are scheduled for the Tuesday following the first Monday in the month of November.
 
Election officials arrive at the polling place at 6:30 A.M. and must remain until the results have been tallied.
 
 
What do Election Officers do?
 
Election Officers work at the polling places. The duties include:
  • arriving at the polling place at 6:30 A.M. on election day
  • setting up the voting equipment
  • processing voters by checking names off lists and books
  • instructing voters on the process of voting
  • closing polls, tallying results and returning them to the county building
Is training provided?
 
Precinct election officials are required to attend at least one instruction class prior to each election.
 
 
Are Election Workers paid?
 
Yes, Election Workers, including Judge of Elections and other Election Officials, receive a daily stipend approved by the County Board of Elections for each election. Please contact Voter Services for current rates.
