Programs and Services

The Chester County Department of Emergency Services offers a number of Public Education opportunities for the citizens of Chester County.

These services allow citizens to see how the 9-1-1 System works and to learn vital information which is needed when a call is placed to 9-1-1.

This information includes:

  • WHERE - Where the incident is happening?
  • WHAT - What is happening?
  • WHEN - Did the incident just occur? If not, how long ago did it happen?
  • WHO - Who is involved?
Sometimes these questions prove difficult to answer in an emergency.

Chester County 9-1-1 is proud to offer the following public education programs:

Schools

Perhaps those hardest hit by an emergency situation might be too young to understand, however, this does not mean that they cannot call for help.  Chester County 9-1-1 offers programs designed specifically for each school grade level.
The pre-school - 1st grade program teaches a basic recognition of an emergency and who responds to help during those emergencies.
The 2nd - 3rd grade program focuses more on describing the type of emergency and the location information that is needed, such as cross streets and township.
The 4th - 5th grade program takes all the above information to a more detailed level; how the 9-1-1 Center operates from the time the call is received until someone arrives on the scene.

All the programs usually last 45 minutes and includes handouts to the students.

Adults

Chester County 9-1-1 offers a range of programs which are designed to help adults fully understand the function of 9-1-1 and provides the opportunity to meet the people who work behind the scenes.  A member of the 9-1-1 Public Education Team will come to your event or the program can be given in conjunction with a tour of the 9-1-1 Center.

Community Events

Chester County 9-1-1 is available to come to your community event or open house.  The Public Education Team will provide a table display with information literature.

Tours

Chester County Department of Emergency Services has opened the 9-1-1 Center to anyone or any group who would be interested in taking a tour.  We provide an explanation of 9-1-1 and important information that you need to know when you dial 9-1-1 for help.  The tour provides insight on what goes on behind the scenes to get help to you.  The tour is approximately one hour and includes handouts to take home.  Tours can be scheduled either during the day time or evening hours.
