{Judge Hall} Born and raised in Chester County, Judge John L. Hall's formal education includes earning diplomas from the Phillips Exeter Academy and Johns Hopkins University. Following his graduation from law school, he handled a wide variety of criminal cases in the Chester County District Attorney's Office from 1984 to 1988. Soon after his service as a prosecutor, he was appointed by then President Judge Sugerman to represent indigent criminal defendants as conflict counsel.
After 1988, and through 2003, Judge Hall worked as a Chester County private practitioner. During those years he continued to serve the Chester County Court of Common Pleas in various capacities, including as a master of real estate partition, chairman of arbitration panels and chairman of boards of view. He litigated many civil cases for plaintiffs as well as defendants, and his appellate work included written arguments before the Pennsylvania and United States Supreme Courts.
As a municipal solicitor, he represented many Chester County municipal bodies, authored legal publications for the Governor's Center for Local Government Services and served as chairman of the Municipal Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Prior to taking office, Judge Hall attained an AV rating from the national Martindale-Hubbell lawyer ratings organization, indicating that he was recognized as having achieved the highest level of professional skill.
In addition to providing service to many Chester County civic and non-profit organizations, he served as president of the Chester County Bar Foundation and as a board of director member of the Chester County Bar Association. Publicly supported by both the Chester County Republican Committee and the Chester County Democratic Executive Committee, Judge Hall was elected Judge of the Chester County Court of Common Pleas in 2003. He took the oath of office in January 2004. In 2005 Judge Hall was appointed supervising judge of the Thirteenth Chester County Grand Jury. He currently serves as supervising judge of the Juvenile Court.
