We have received many inquiries about the summer, 2005 closure of the Dorlans Mill Road parking area at the north end of Chester County’s Struble Trail.
This parking area is actually the property of the Shryock Paper Mill’s owners, who never formally agreed to let the public use the lot as a trailhead. Their permission to allow the trailhead’s use expired when the Mill’s ownership changed in the summer of 2005.
The County's primary goal is to extend the trail past its current northern terminus. It has holdings of the former Wlimington and Northern Brach Railroad corridor to Honey Brook. We continue to be in contact with the property owner, the two townships involved in any potential development, and the PA Bureau of State Parks (including managers of Marsh Creek State Park) on this issue. The County has hired the Natural Lands Trust to help negotiate a resolution with the landowner, and provide for restored sections of the Struble Trail through the paper mill properties north and south of Dorlan Mill Road.
Persons with additional questions should e-mail me at the address below. We will also post substantial updates to our website, modifying this report. Inquiries regarding any land development process submitted by the landowner should be directed to Upper Uwchlan Township.
Thank you for your continued support and use of our rail trails.
