Warwick’s woodlands provided much of the timber for charcoal used in the early American iron industry. A portion of the French creek meanders through the 538 acre park. An ideal site for nature study, the Horse-Shoe Trail, extending from Valley Forge to the Appalachian Trail, adds length to the numerous miles of multi-use park trails.

Fishing Information

The angling opportunities in Warwick County Park consist of one resource - the French Creek. Located in northern Chester County, two miles of this pristine creek can be accessed from within the park. The portion meandering through Warwick County Park averages 15-20 feet wide and 18-24 inches deep.

French Creek is classified as a coldwater fishery, but hosts both coldwater and warm water species. Each year, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission stocks Rainbow and Brown Trout. From a trout fishing perspective, French Creek is one of the most popular destinations in the southeastern corner of Pennsylvania.

Anglers may also hook a few warm water species that inhabit the stream, such as Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, Sunfish and an occasional Pickerel.

Projects

Warwick Park Staff members Tim McClure and Alan Engelbrecht are nearing completion of a 350 linear foot water retention swale. Shown here, they are spreading topsoil on the side {spreadmix} slopes of the structure and adding a special topsoil blend to the bottom trench to permit water

infiltration rather than runoff. This Best Management Practice is for clean water and ground water retention within the French Creek watershed, which is classified as Exceptional Value. The construction of the swale is the beginning of phase two park improvements that will include the construction of a large picnic pavilion and adjacent parking. Phase three work will include the construction of a new administration and interpretive center with LEEDS certified amenities.
