Probation
This department supervises those convicted offenders who have been placed on probation by the Court. Probation is a sentencing alternative that allows the offender to remain in the community under the supervision of a Probation Officer subject to conditions deemed appropriate by the Court.
Parole
Parole is a conditional release of an offender who has served part of their sentence in prison to serve the balance of the sentence under the supervision of a Parole Officer. The Court has parole authority for those offenders sentenced to less than two (2) years of incarceration, maximum. The Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole has paroling authority for those sentenced to incarceration of two (2) years or longer.
